DR. LINDA AMARAL-ZETTLER

Special Chair Marine Microbiology, Faculty of Science, University of Amsterdam; Senior Scientist, Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ), Netherlands

Dr. Amaral-Zettler holds a PhD in Biological Oceanography from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Joint Program. She maintains ties to Woods Hole through an MBL Fellow appointment at the Marine Biological Laboratory's Josephine Bay Paul Center for Comparative Molecular Biology and Evolution.

DR. KARA LAVENDER-LAW

Research Professor, Sea Education Association (SEA), Massachusetts, USA

Dr. Lavender-Law holds a PhD in physical oceanography from Scripps Institution of Oceanography and a BS in mathematics from Duke University. She is co-chair of the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) Working Group FLOTSAM (Floating Litter and its Oceanic TranSport Analysis and Modelling) and serves as the co-principal investigator of the Marine Debris Working Group at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS).

DR. MARK PATTERSON

Associate Dean of Research and Professor, Northeastern University, Boston, USA

Dr. Patterson holds a PhD in Biology from Harvard University. He directs the Field Robotics Laboratory at Northeastern's Marine Science Center where he builds free-swimming autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), tethered remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and underwater water quality sensors.

DR. CHELSEA ROCHMAN

Assistant Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Toronto, Canada

Dr. Rochman holds a PhD in Ecology from the University of California. She was a recipient of the Society for Conservation Biology's David H. Smith Postdoctoral Fellowship and co-founded the University of Toronto Trash Team. She was formerly a David H. Smith Postdoctoral Fellow at the Aquatic Health Program at the University of California, Davis.

DR. ERIK ZETTLER

Guest Researcher, Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ), Netherlands

Dr. Zettler holds a PhD in Microbial Ecology from Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain. He was a former member of the Biology Department at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and has taught and conducted research at SEA Education Association, as science coordinator, professor and associate dean.
