MICROPLASTICS
DEPTH SAMPLER

THE PROFILER

PORTABLE. RELIABLE. EASILY DEPLOYABLE.

Studies suggest that 99.8% of oceanic plastic sinks below the ocean surface layer. Current microplastics sampling equipment either only skims the surface of the water or requires large and expensive research vessels with industrial deployment capabilities, making it difficult for scientists to collect below-surface samples.

The sampler is a manual profiling instrument designed to break the barriers of collecting filtered microplastic samples through the water column. Light, portable and easily deployable from a variety of vessels, the profiler significantly increases your data collection capabilities.

COLLECT BETTER DATA

Investigate new threats and depths, from coral reefs, to arctic feeding grounds, wastewater and stormwater outfalls, rivers and lakes.

FEATURES

  • Collect up to 7 discrete underwater filtered samples on 47mm diameter filters with mesh sizes ranging from 50μm to 300μm

  • Minimize end-user handling and reduce contamination by filtering directly in situ

  • Rechargeable battery maximizes deployment time and minimizes battery waste

  • The profiler is manually lowered and raised through the water column by hand with a 200m length real-time communication tether

  • Monitor depth, temperature, flow rate, and total volume filtered in real-time to collect highly customizable samples depending on your research interest

  • Full user control over filtration flow rates, depth, and sample selection via a real-time computer-based deployment interface

  • Easily deploy by hand from any large vessel, small boat or even kayak without the need for additional equipment, A-frames, or winches

  • Export deployment data into a standardized report

  • Intuitive deployment interface, no coding or confusing terminal commands are required to deploy our profiler

APPLICATIONS

  • Below surface microplastic and microfiber sampling

  • Plankton total organic matter > 50μm

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Intuitive topside user interface outputs important metrics like pump power, flow rate, volume sampled, depth and temperature, all in real-time

  • Dry Weight of 10 Kg (22 lbs)

  • Maximum sample depth of 150m

  • Up to 7 discrete stainless steel mesh filters can be sampled per deployment cast with mesh sizes from 50μm to 300μm

  • Tether included

POWER SOURCE

  • Rechargeable 266 W-hr battery pack provides a more sustainable alternative to primary batteries used in similar platforms
